Adnan Khayyat
Adnan Khayyat joined the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security more than 25 years ago and currently serves as Chief Nuclear Officer and Deputy Director of the Office of Nuclear Safety, where he leads Illinois’ nuclear safety and radiation control programs. Over his career, he has served in multiple leadership roles at IEMA-OHS, including Labor Relations Administrator, Acting Chief of Staff, and Interim Director. He has been recognized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for advancing programs that set model standards. Mr. Khayyat earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and previously taught chemistry and mathematics at Lincoln Land Community College.
